2025: what have been the biggest cyber security challenges so far (part 2)?

29th May 2025

Every day bad actors find other ways to infiltrate your systems: how can better technology, training and awareness help to defend against this?

We’re back with part 2! If you didn’t read our previous article, you may want to look HERE – to summarise, 2025 has seen a lot of advancements in cyber-attacks and we’re counting down the problems to be aware of.

In no particular order, here are the next five cyber challenges your organisation needs to know about:

1. Zero-day threats: hackers quickly take advantage of new releases, striking before patches can be implemented. By keeping all your applications as up to date as possible, you ensure that when a vulnerability is patched, you know you have the best defence in place.

2. Insider threats: either intentionally or unintentionally, employees can cause data breaches. Often this is due to a lack of understanding or training: ensure your staff know how to spot attack attempts to prevent them from becoming threats.

3. Regulatory compliance: as cyber security evolves, so do the rules and regulations regarding what you need to have in place by law to meet the right standards. It can be difficult keeping up with the changing landscape, but it is essential to keeping your devices secure.

4. Phishing and social engineering: AI has allowed these attack methods to expand, making it easier for cyber criminals to manipulate their targets. Continued training and awareness is the key to staying ahead – is your team prepared?

5. Cyber security talent shortage: the demand for skilled cyber security professionals is high, making it difficult to find and hire the right staff. MSPs could be the way forward – a team of IT professionals covering multiple organisations, negating the need to hire staff.

So, there you have it, between the two articles our top ten cyber challenges of 2025 so far: I wonder what will have changed by the time we get to 2026?
