The purpose of the Environmental Policy at Interfuture Security Ltd. is to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that our operations are conducted with a commitment to minimising any negative impact on the environment.
As an office we know that we generate waste and by products. However, as we strive for excellence in every aspect of our business, we have reviewed our operations closely and have identified a number of areas where we have been able to improve our environmental performance.
We are proud to boast that 100% of our company cars are electric which means that 50% of our total workforce are driving electric cars. The remaining staff live either locally or nearby, thus reducing pollution from car exhaust.
Furthermore, the energy used to heat our buildings comes from local biomass woodchip, generated by/on the Balcombe Estate Sawmill & Forestry where we are located. This organic and renewable material (biofuel) is burnt in a specially designed biomass boiler that converts the energy into heat which is delivered to the buildings located on this part of the Estate. Whilst biofuel does release carbon dioxide when burned, it releases considerably less than fossil fuels and is considered a renewable and sustainable energy source (see Energy Saving Trust).
The amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment (e-waste), generated every year in the EU, is increasing rapidly and is now one of the fastest growing waste streams. We are committed to the responsible disposal of such equipment and fully adhere to the EU rules on Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) by effectively managing this waste through the careful collection, storage and paid disposal (for the purposes of recycling and reusing the valuable components contained therein).
In addition to the above, our stated aims are to:
Regularly monitor and review our environmental performance.
Where possible, use organically friendly paper.
Recycle paper waste, unless confidentiality may be compromised.
Reduce our consumption of paper and toner cartridges, and improve the efficiency of those resources, by reducing printing and hardcopy storage, as far as is practicable.
Recycle all card and plastic waste, batteries and toner cartridges.
Comply with all Environmental legislation as well as other environmental guidance and best practice.
Finally, we are currently exploring solar energy options, with a view to harnessing enough energy from the sun to meet much of our electricity needs. Due to our unobstructed and elevated position, our roof receives full sunlight and so, we would be able to install panels to three sides of our traditional Kent peg tiled roof. We have been advised that by using top of the range Photovoltaic (PV) panels and the Tesla Powerwall battery, we could benefit from a significant energy yield, thus further reducing our fossil fuel usage dramatically.
This Environmental Policy Statement will be reviewed periodically and updated, as necessary. The management team fully endorses this Environmental Policy and its stated aims and is fully committed to their implementation.
