What is the National Cyber Security Centre?

6th June 2025

Need guidance on your cyber security from a trusted source (for free)? Here is the place to start.

Sometimes, if you need advice on your cyber security, it can be difficult to know where to get the best information from. Ideally your IT security provider would be able to help, but if you don’t have someone you can easily talk to, the amount of content online, much of it conflicting, can be tricky to digest.

However, if you’re UK based as we are, we recommend starting with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). Established in 2016, NCSC is the government agency that serves as the national authority on cyber security, with the mission of ensuring the UK is the safest place to live and work online.

NCSC provides advice, to people, businesses, other government divisions: anyone. They assist in managing and responding to cyber-attacks, helping organisations to recover, while also learning from the incident. Additionally, NCSC works with partners from across the globe, all united in the fight against cyber-crime.

One of their most useful tools include Cyber Essentials, a certification scheme with guidelines on implementing security measures to businesses (something which we are certified in and offer).

Other guides include tailored advice for small businesses (who may struggle with budget and resources), a guide for board members (who it is important to keep informed as a lot of the big financial decisions are decided by them) and the Cyber Assessment Framework, designed to help organisations identify what is missing from their set up and how they could improve.

In short, if you need advice, the NCSC website is the place to start. Take a look at their resources and see if they could be useful for you:
